VISAKHAPATNAM: Irked over not getting marriage proposal, a man addicted to alcohol vented his anger on his parents and younger brother by setting them afire at Chapagedda of G Madugula mandal in the wee hours of Friday.

The 30-year-old was also upset that his younger brother was getting marriage proposals. While the father of the youth, who was beaten up escaped with minor injuries, his brother and mother sustained severe burns and their condition is stated to be critical.

Srinu Babu is an alcoholic and after his parents — Pothu Raju and Chittamma — started searching for a match for him, many proposals were turned down owing to his addiction to alcohol. Recently, the parents started searching for marriage proposals for Srinu’s younger brother Chitti Babu (25). Feeling neglected by his parents, Srinu Babu hatched a plan to eliminate all the three.

In the wee hours of Saturday, Srinu Babu saw his mother and brother sleeping and his father loitering in the corridor. He then set mother and brother afire after dousing them with kerosene. Pothuraju who came running to rescue his wife and younger son, was beaten up by Srinu, said G Madugula police.

The cops said that the trio was shifted to hospital. Chittamma and Chittibabu have sustained severe burns, while the condition of  Pothuraju is said to be stable. The G Madugula police have registered a case and launched a manhunt for the accused.
