An ambulance driver, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, lost control of his vehicle and rammed it into a transformer by the roadside on Saturday, causing the ambulance to overturn and leaving three injured.

The accident took place near Nelamangala on the outskirts of the city. The ambulance was carrying the body of a dead man, Muttappa, and his family members. The ambulance was on its way from Jayadeva Hospital to Attigeri in Haveri district. Muttappa’s wife Sujatha and her relatives Pradeep and Subhash Reddy were travelling in the ambulance at the time.

The driver fled from the spot immediately. Passers-by alerted the Nelamangala police and shifted the injured to a hospital.
