Krishnappa, 62, a resident of Gundalupalya in Malur taluk of Kolar district, was attacked by a bear recently. He was working in his field and took shelter under a tree when it started to rain and the bear attacked him.
“Half his face is badly mangled. He has lost sight in his right eye and the right eyeball socket is damaged,” said a press release from his doctor.
Mr. Krishnappa also sustained a deep cut to the left side of his scalp during the attack on Thursday afternoon. After getting first aid at a hospital in Kolar, he was brought to HOSMAT hospital in the evening. A five-hour emergency surgery was conducted. “The broken upper jaw and cheekbones were fixed using plates and screws,” the release said.
Mr. Krishnappa needs two more reconstructive surgeries and is under observation in the ICU, said hospital sources. His condition is said to be stable now.
