Vinicius Junior not to play in FIFA U-17 World Cup for Brazil after club bars travel due to loss

Vinicius Junior will not play the FIFA U-17 World Cup for Brazil after he was barred to travel by his Brazil club Flamengo.

Vinicius Junior, Brazil’s star football player and part of their original squad for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in India, will not be turn out for Brazil in the tournament after he was barred to travel to India from his Brazil club Flamengo.

“We want the best for Vinicius, he is an intelligent and important player for the national team, but he has not participated in the preparation weeks that they have had,” Flamengo coach Reinaldo Rueda was quoted as saying by GloboEsporte.com.

“He knows that he could have gone and helped, but he also wants to respect the situation. He knows there are good players in the squad and so he is going to stay with us. We hope Brazil will succeed in the World Cup.”

According a report on the website, Flamengo and Vinicius had an agreement that the footballer can only travel to India if the club won the final of the Copa do Brasil which did not happen.

“I told this to the board of directors of Flamengo. I do not agree, I am deeply disappointed by this decision. Calling a loss or a victory to the release of a player for the national team makes me sad, “said CBF national team coordinator Edu Gaspar.

Brazil are placed in Group D with Spain, Niger and North Korea and they will play their first game of U-17 World Cup on October 7 against European Champions Spain in Kochi.
