REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Oct. 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --

WHAT: Vance Bjorn, co-founder and CTO of DigitalPersona®, will address critical issues surrounding the use of biometrics for Civil ID applications at Biometrics 2011. Bjorn will present a market update on October 19, 2011 at 11:05 a.m. GMT, discussing in-depth the current state of biometrics, challenges and opportunities. On October 20, 2011 at 11:15 a.m. GMT, Bjorn will present a session titled, "Securing the Mobile Public Sector Workforce," where he will tackle the issue of data protection and staff productivity while on the move.

Biometrics 2011 will be held October 18-20, 2011 at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in Westminster, London, UK.

Vance Bjorn commentary: "Adoption of fingerprint biometrics by emerging nations such as Brazil and Nigeria has been phenomenal. Implementations have experienced enormous success and have stimulated voter participation, from registration to turnout. Using biometrics at point-of-voting provides reliable, easy-to-use proof of identity for local authorities that helps protect against fraud and reduces the risk of duplicate votes.

"Biometrics security technologies can also protect information gathered and used on the frontline in law enforcement and other civil duties. Council workers, police, civil servants and other public sector employees can access data securely on the move, thus avoiding high profile instances of data losses."
