LOS ANGELES, Oct. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Los Angeles County Medical Association (LACMA) announced today that they have hired Rocky Delgadillo as Chief Executive Officer.

"Rocky Delgadillo is the ideal choice, given his deep knowledge and experience and his passionate advocacy on behalf of the patients that we serve," said Dr. Troy Elander, president of the LACMA Board.  "Rocky has a track record of providing game changing leadership."

The organization put together a CEO Select Committee to oversee this yearlong process. The Committee, which was made up of LACMA officers, past presidents and members at large, reviewed over 400 candidates for this position.

"The CEO Search Committee worked for over a year to find the best candidate to lead the organization in fulfilling its mission statement, that of advocating for the interests of its members and the patients they serve," said CEO Search Committee Chairman Robert Bitonte, M.D. "Mr. Delgadillo brings abilities and qualities the committee felt best served those interests."

Mr. Delgadillo, former Los Angeles City Attorney and currently a partner at the law firm of Liner Grode Stein Yankelevitz Sunshine Regenstreif & Taylor LLP, brings over 20 years of experience in litigation, economic development, and government law and public policy to the position.

"This is an exciting opportunity. In addition to my work here at the firm, I look forward to working at the forefront of current medicine and working to protect LACMA and its members," said Delgadillo. "I am ready to roll up my sleeves and work to ensure LACMA members are able to focus on the important work they do and not on the bureaucracy that plagues the medical profession."

As Los Angeles City Attorney, Delgadillo won national acclaim for his efforts to rein in insurance industry abuses, including:

  • Suing insurer Anthem Blue Cross of California for fraudulent business practices and deceptive advertising in the course of illegally rescinding 6,000 insurance policies
  • Suing insurer Health Net for engaging in unlawful and deceptive business practices that lead to denial of care claims.
  • Winning passage of a first-of-its-kind local ordinance to stop "patient dumping" by hospitals

In addition, as City Attorney, Mr. Delgadillo spearheaded the City's civil litigation and criminal prosecutions, supervising 550 attorneys in the second largest city in the nation.  When elected in 2001, Mr. Delgadillo was the first Latino to win citywide office in more than 100 years.

Mr. Delgadillo received his A.B. (with honors) from Harvard University and his J.D. from Columbia University Law School in New York. Rocky and his wife Michelle reside in Windsor Village with their sons Christian (10) and Preston (7).

The Los Angeles County Medical Association is a professional association representing physicians from every medical specialty and practice setting as well as medical students, interns and residents. For more than 100 years, LACMA has been at the forefront of current medicine, ensuring that its members are represented in the areas of public policy, government relations and community relations. Through its advocacy efforts in both Los Angeles County and with the statewide California Medical Association, physician leaders and staff strive toward a common goal- that physicians might spend more time treating patients and less time worrying about the challenges of managing a practice.
