After losing the fourth ODI against Australia by 21 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli met with the women’s team members Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana. The image of this special meeting was posted by BCCI on Indian cricket team’s official Facebook page. In this picture, Kohli was seen having a few words with the star players of the Indian women’s cricket team. Both Mandhana and Kaur performed exceptionally well during the recently held ICC Women ODI World Cup. The team led by Mithali Raj had lost the final to hosts England.
Earlier in the day, Steve Smith won the toss and decided to bat first in friendly conditions. David Warner and Aaron Finch responded well to this decision and added over 200 runs for the first wicket. Warner who was playing his 100th ODI went on to score his 14th century in the 50-over format. On the other hand, Finch who had scored a destructive century in the last match at Indore missed his hundred by just 6 runs. Despite losing some early wickets in the middle overs, Australia managed to put up 334 in 50 overs.
Chasing this huge total, Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma got India off to a flying start. The duo looked confident from the very first ball and added over 100 runs for the opening wicket. Both the batsmen completed their half-centuries before Rahane eventually got out after scoring 53 runs.
Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, was a victim of a serious mix-up with captain Kohli in the middle while the skipper himself got out soon. The hosts then lost some wickets at regular intervals only to fall short of the total by 21 runs. India now lead the five-match series 3-1 with one more game to go.
