Farmers being prevented by the police from tilling the disputed land at Bhimole village in West Godavari district on Thursday | Express

ELURU: Tension prevailed at Bhimole in Gopalapuram mandal on Thursday when some farmers tried to till the disputed land in the village. Several tracts of land in the village is involved in a dispute with both farmers and the government claiming the ownership on it. The case is still pending in the High Court.

Around 150 farmers, led by the CPI, entered the disputed land and started tilling. Having learnt about it, Jangareddygudem DSP Muralikrishna rushed to the village to thwart any law and order problem.
Explaining the status quo, he asked the farmers to vacate the land, but the latter were in no mood to listen. It took a lot of persuasion to make the farmers stop tilling the land. The farmers held talks with the police officials and agreed to leave the place with an assurance that a meeting with the RDO will be convened to resolve the issue.
