Mumbai: The Tree Authority, headed by Civic Commissioner Ajoy Mehta, on Thursday approved the nullah widening pending proposal with the support of BJP which was stalled by the ruling party Shiv Sena for long time. However, Sena House leader and member of tree committee Yashwant Jadhav alleged that the proposal was dated back January 2016, but administration themselves delayed the proposal and BJP is more keen on destroying the green lungs of the city.
Jadav further claimed that they (Sena) are not against nullah widening projects but during the meeting they demanded affidavits like approval of horticulture officer and permission given by the owner of the tree has been received by the BMC which is necessary for transplantation or killing and replantation of trees.
“BMC has to provide the affidavits and necessary permission copies to the member so as to go ahead with the work. But they illegally passed the proposal with the support of Bharatiya Janta Party corporators, second largest party in BMC.”
BMC on Thursday proposed six different proposal of nullah widening and drain tanks construction for which total 505 trees are required to be cut and they are Jaykalyan Nagar nullah of Malvani, Premier nullah of Nehru Nagar Kurla, are among others.

Slamming the Sena corporator, BJP corporator Manoj Kotak said, “The proposals first tabled in Standing Committee and Sena corporator is the president of the committee, so were they sleeping while forwarding same proposals in tree authority.” Earlier Free Press Journal reported how the storm water and drain department of BMC was struggling for getting an approval from tree authority to undertake the nullah widening work of Nehru Nagar Kurla area which would provide relief from flooding if the work begins.
