Glew & Kim Wins Dismissal of Charges for Medical Marijuana Patient in Riverside County

21:01 EDT 29 Sep 2017 | PR Newswire

RIVERSIDE, Calif., Sept. 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- At a Riverside County Court, justice prevailed for a patient using medical marijuana to alleviate the pain of his symptoms.

The defendant, who shall remain nameless, hired Christopher M. Glew to argue his case after being arrested for possession of marijuana.

A routine traffic stop developed into something more for the defendant when the marijuana was found in his car, and he was charged with possession with intent to sell and transporting marijuana in spite of his state-issued medical marijuana identification card.

As per the California Department of Public Health's website, this card "allows law enforcement and the public to verify the validity of qualified patient or caregiver's card as authorization to possess, grow, transport and/or use Medical Marijuana in California." This program stems from Senate Bill (SB) 420 that was passed as an extension and clarification of Proposition 215, also known as the Compassionate Use Act of 1996.

At the court date, attorney Christopher M. Glew was able to successfully argue the defense for his client, and the result was a dismissal of all charges for the defendant.

"This is a triumph for those who are trying to live with the pain of cancer and other illnesses," stated Mr. Glew after the court date. "People should not be persecuted for following the letter of the law. My client had a state-issued card and should not have been arrested."
