THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Following the state government's emphasis on eco-friendly practices, a couple from Kerala's Ernakulam decided to go green on their engagement.
Melvin and Pinku ensured a sustainable approach in every aspect of the ceremony. From stage decorations and food to the garlands for the couple, eco-friendly and non-polluting materials were arranged in abundance.
"Usually family functions are known for their grandeur and extravagance, which unfortunately comes at the cost of high carbon footprint. We wanted to avoid that. As a couple, together we decided to change this practice and promote go-green philosphy," Melvin said.
"Fortunately, both of us were on the same page and our families also found support from our families," he added.
On June 6, Kerala government launched green-protocol to make the auspicious occasions more nature-friendly.
"With the implementation of the protocol, plastic and other non-degradable articles including disposable glasses and plates and thermocol decorations will be kept at bay from marriage functions," a state government official was quoted as saying by PTI.
He also said that the Ernakulam's district administration is issuing green marriage certificate for those weddings which abide by the protocol completely.
