A tragic accident took place today at Elphinstone Road station in Mumbai as 22 people died and more than 30 people are critically injured. A stampede occurred on the Elphinstone foot over bridge, and the incident shocked Mumbaikars. People rushed to spot and tried to rescued people.
Victims have been admitted to the KEM hospital which is nearby and state government has announced Rs 5 lakh to people who have died and Railway minister announced Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia to kin of deceased, Rs 1 lakh to grievously injured and Rs 50,000 to those who suffered minor injuries. . Apart from all this, Twitter users have lashed out at government. People are full of anger and expressing their ire through tweets. Even celebrities have tweeted on this tragic accident.
The stampede happened during the rush hour in morning, when people were going to their work. Reports say that heavy rain forced commuters to take shelter at the foot over bridge. When the train arrived, people rushed to board it, leading to the stampede.
