Spyder box office collections: Mahesh Babu-AR Murugadoss film earns Rs 51 crore on Day 1

Spyder will be Mahesh Babu’s first direct Tamil film.

Tollywood superstar Mahesh Babu and director AR Murugadoss can finally sigh in relief as their magnum opus Spyder has opened to positive reviews across the world. According to initial trade reports, the bilingual has taken a good opening in Tamil Nadu and in the US, earning Rs 51 crore on the first day worldwide. It is significant as Spyder is Mahesh Babu’s first straight Tamil film in contrast to the superstar status he enjoys in Tollywood. The actor who is fluent in Tamil has also dubbed for himself in the movie. Spyder has also earned Rs 64 lakh on the opening day with the Tamil version grossing Rs 46 lakh and Telugu version collecting Rs 18 lakh.

The film has also taken a massive opening in the United States earning more than a million dollars in revenue. According to trade analyst Ramesh Bala, the film has earned around Rs. 7.40 crore (USD 1,122,360) after the premieres and partial opening day collections. However, initial reports suggest that Spyder has not received the same response in Telugu speaking states, Mahesh Babu’s stronghold. Apparently, the film has failed to match any of the recent big openings seen in the industry. Apart from Mahesh Babu, Spyder also has SJ Suriyah, Bharath, RJ Balaji and Rakul Preet Singh in key roles, with music by Harris Jeyaraj. The action-thriller is AR Murugadoss’ first collaboration with the Tollywood superstar.

The film has been presented by Tagore Madhu in association with NVR Cinema LLP along with Reliance Entertainment Production and distributed by Lyca production.
