ROUGH CUT. NO REPORTER NARRATION. Indonesia received a pair of giant pandas from China on Thursday (September 28), a move both countries said would further boost friendship and cultural cooperation. The pair, Cai Tao and Hu Chun, both arrived from Sichuan on a commercial flight at around 8:40 a.m. local time (0140GMT). They will stay in Indonesia's Taman Safari, on the outskirts of the capital Jakarta, for 10 years. Indonesia is the 16th country to receive giant pandas from China. Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya, who was there to usher in the new guests, said their arrival showed China's confidence in the Southeast Asian nation's conservation standards. The seven-year-old pandas were transferred to their new home for quarantine shortly after arrival. They are expected to go on public display in late October or early November.
