Rail fracture at Vaniyambadi delays trains

Several Chennai-bound trains were delayed on Thursday morning after a fracture was detected on the railway line at Vaniyambadi railway station.

According to railway officials, the rail fracture was spotted during the early hours of Thursday. It was found on the line near the despatch signal of Vaniyambadi station.

Railway staff immediately took up works to restore the line. Four Chennai-bound trains – Yesvantpur-Muzaffarpur Express, Mangaluru Central to Chennai Central Express, Thiruvananthapuram Central – Chennai Central Express, and Cheran Express – were delayed by two hours, an official said.

After temporary restoration works were taken up, the trains were allowed to pass with speed restriction. About 15 trains were cleared as the day progressed. The trains were running late by half an hour to one hour.
