BSF Jawan Ramzan Parray Dragged Out Of Home, Shot Dead By Terrorists In North Kashmir

Terrorists barged into Md Ramzan Parray's house and shot him after a foiled bid to kidnap him

SRINAGAR:  A young, unarmed jawan of the Border Security Force was shot dead by terrorists on Wednesday evening when he and his family resisted their attempt to kidnap him. The terrorists also opened fire at his family too, injuring four of them including an aunt. Constable Mohammad Ramzan Parray, 31, died on the spot.

The BSF constable is deployed with the border-guarding force's 73rd battalion and had come home in Bandipora district on a vacation a few days earlier. Md Ramzan, 31, had joined the force that is primarily deployed along India's border with Pakistan and Bangladesh six years ago. Initial police reports had identified the jawan as Rameez Ahmad Parray.

SP Vaid, the Jammu and Kashmir police chief called the killing "barbaric and inhuman" and vowed to punish the guilty.

The killing comes just a few days after India had cited the cold-blooded murder of a Kashmiri army officer Lt Ummer Fayaz at the United Nations General Assembly as an example of the kind of terrorism emanating from Pakistan. "This is a true picture. It portrays a harsh and tragic reality," an Indian diplomat had told the UN body, holding the 22-year-old officer's photograph.

Like Constable Ramzan, Lt Fayaz too was off-duty and unarmed when he was abducted from a family wedding in south Kashmir's Shopian district in May this year.

The army officer's family had hoped the terrorists would let him go and didn't report the abduction to the police. The army officer's body was found the next day around 30 km from his village, with bullets in his head and abdomen.

When the terrorists barged into Constable Md Ramzan's house on Wednesday evening to take him away, he and his family resisted. According to reports, they dragged him out of the house and when it became clear that they wouldn't be able to take him away, they opened fire.

Four of his family members - his father, two brothers and an aunt were injured, police said.

Nitish Kumar, who heads the police in north Kashmir, tweeted that the four were "critically injured".
