Nawazuddin Siddiqui's mother Mehroonisa named one of BBC's '100 Most Influential Women' for 2017

Mehroonisa Siddiqui, the mother of actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, has been chosen as one of BBC's 100 Most Influential Women for 2017.

Sixty five-year-old Mehroonisa, who has been described as a homemaker and proud mother on the BBC's site, has a blurb that reads "It's never too late to learn" alongside her image.

Other Indian women who have made it to the list include cricketer Mithali Raj, social entrepreneur Urvashi Sahni, journalist and teacher Tulika Sahni, among others. CanadianIndian author/illustrator Rupi Kaur was also mentioned on the list.

Nawaz tweeted a congratulatory message for his mother on Thursday, 28 September, after the BBC announced its list.

Under a photo of himself with Mehroonisa, the actor wrote:

"A lady who showed courage against all odds, (despite) being from a conservative family, from a small village — my mother."

Good wishes poured in from fans of the actor n his mother's achievement.
