‘No helmet, no petrol’ for two-wheeler riders in Andhra Pradesh

VIJAYAWADA: Making it clear that wearing helmet and seat belt are mandatory for two-wheeler riders and four-wheeler drivers respectively, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed the officials to implement ‘No Helmet - No Fuel’ norm strictly across the State.

While discussing with the officials on road safety at the Interim Government Complex in Velagapudi on Wednesday, Naidu said that many passengers died in accidents due to not wearing helmets and seat belts. “People should change their mindset and know the fact that they are wearing the helmet for saving their precious lives and not for the sake of the government or police,” he said. 

Underscoring the need for more accountability in police and transport departments, the CM said that he will not hesitate to take action against the officials if they failed to discharge their duties properly with regard to the road safety.

Directing the officials to remove road encroachments and rectify blockspots on roads, he said the government will soon release Rs 10 crore for purchasing road safety tools.

CM reviews CRDA plans

While reviewing with the officials over the progress of works being taken up by APCRDA and Amaravati Development Corporation (ADC), the Chief Minister directed the officials to come out of the planning stage and to take up the works.

Informing the Chief Minister that 25 world class educational institutes came forward to establish their branches in Amaravati, CRDA Commissioner Ch Sreedhar said that 11 national and international institutes had already sent proposals. Out of the 11 institutes, eight of them ranked among top 10 and the remaining ranked between 10 and 15.

Scottish High International School, Chinmaya Mission, Candor International School, The Heritage School, Sadbhavana World School, Ryan Global School, Podar School, Glendale Academy, Delhi Public School, GIIS, DAV group of schools sent proposals to set up institutes in Amaravati. The CM asked officials to continue to aim for the top 5 institutes in the world to Amaravati.
