Bidi burns blanket, man dies

Rajkot: In an unusual accident, a man died of asphyxiation after the bidi he was smoking set ablaze his blanket in Vavadi area on Gondal Road in Rajkot.

Police said Hira Vadher (58), a resident of Chudava village in Manwadar taluka, had come to visit his son Krunal Vadher at whose ho-use the accident occurred.

"While Krunal and other family members had gone out to attend a garba programme, Hira flung a burning bidi on a blanket placed on a chair in the room. The blanket caused fire and filled the unventilated room with smoke, due to which Vadher suffered asphyxiation and died," said an official from Rajkot taluka police station. tnn
