Watch: Markets snap 7-day loss; Nifty reclaims 9750
Breaking a seven-day losing streak, which wiped off about Rs 6 lakh crore of equity investor wealth, the benchmark indices finally made a move out of the red zone to end higher on Thursday.

BSE Sensex ended at 31,282.48, up 122.67 points or 0.39 per cent while the 50-share Nifty reclaimed 9,750 level to end the Thursday’s volatile session at 9,768.95, up 33 points or 0.34 per cent on F&O contracts expiry.

Shares of Kotak Bank (up 3.05 per cent), Cipla (up 2.16 per cent), Maruti (up 2.15 per cent), Dr Reddy's Laboratories (up 2.06 per cent) and Coal India (up 1.94 per cent) were the top gainers on BSE.

However, stocks such as Asian Paints (down 2.85 per cent), Reliance (down 1.41 per cent), Wipro (down 1.18 per cent) and Bharti Airtel (down 1.05 per cent) wiped off gains.

Broader markets fared better as BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices gained nearly 1 per cent each.

Midcap index closed at 15,309.29, up 117 points or 0.77 per cent as over 4 per cent surge in shares of Reliance Communications, JSW Energy, Bajaj Holdings, Ashok Leyland and Kansanier boosted sentiment.

BSE Smallcap index added 142 points or 0.90 per cent to eventually end at 15,939.52. Shares of Ruchi Soya (up 11.01 per cent), Hindustan Oil Exploration Company (up 9.67 per cent), Camlin Finance (up 9.18 per cent) and FCL (up 8.89 per cent) were the top gainers on the index, lifting market sentiment.

Barring Nifty IT (down 0.21 per cent) and Nifty Media (down 0.22 per cent), all sectoral indices ended the day in green. Nifty Realty index was the top sectoral gainer, up 1.10 per cent at 266.45. It was followed by Nifty Pharma (up 0.83 per cent).

Among specific stocks, shares of Ruchi Soya Industries surged over 11 per cent in Thursday's trade after reports that the company has signed distribution pact with Patanjali.

In the primary market, MAS Financial Services on Thursday said it has fixed a price band of Rs 456-459 per share for its initial share sale offering, through which it is estimated to raise Rs 460 crore.

Globally, China's blue-chip CSI300 index was unchanged at 3,822.54, while the Shanghai Composite Index was down 0.2 percent at 3,339.64 points. Meanwhile, Japan's Nikkei gained 0.5 per cent to 20,363.11.
