The vacation bench of the High Court of Karnataka on Thursday ordered notice to the BBMP commissioner in a PIL seeking directions to restrain the civic body from inaugurating Indira Canteen inside JP Park in Mathikere on October 2.
The petitioner, Ravikumar, contended that Jayaprakash Narayan Biodiversity Park, on 85 acres at Mathikere with a lake, lawns, more than 250 varieties of trees and shrubs, will be destroyed by inaugurating a canteen on its premsies.
Indira Canteen inside JP Park is scheduled to be inaugurated on October 2.
During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel said that BBMP has made a submission in the court it they would not construct a canteen inside the park.

Sastry directed the petitioner to make the state government a party since the Indira Canteen is a government programme and adjourned the further hearing.
