The New Indian Express too chips in for 'One Million Goals campaign'

KOCHI: On Wednesday when the state extended a grandiose welcome to the maiden football World Cup to be held on its soil, The New Indian Express also joined hands with a string of colleges across the state to become a part of the One Million Goals campaign. Though they were not the kind of goals that decided matches and championships, they will be as momentous as any other in Kerala’s history. 

As many as 14 colleges, who were part of the annual TNIE GOAL all-Kerala inter-collegiate football tournament in the previous years, associated with TNIE to play a part in the statewide campaign contributing thousands of goals to the 17,34,586 scored all over Kerala. At the Mangayil High School Ground in Maradu here, TNIE associated with the K Ambujakshan Memorial Football Academy to hold the campaign where hundreds of youngsters planted shots into the net. 

A ‘Shoot at Goal’ contest was also conducted as part of the programme in three categories --  for children aged 13 and below, girls and general. Winners in each category were presented with cash awards and other prizes. Maradu Municipality chairperson Sunila Subi inaugurated the function which was also attended by councillors, Academy president Sarath Chandran, secretary Shaji and India women international C V Seena among others. 

The event was also conducted at Thumba St Xavier’s College, Aluva UC College, Wadakkanchery Sree Vyasa NSS College, Kannur SN College, Pazhanji Mar Dionysius College, Areacode SS College, Mampad MES College, Payyannur College, Kothamangalam Mar Athanasius College, Kozhikode Zamorin’s Guruvayurappan College, Kottayam Baselius College, Muvattupuzha Nirmala College, Shoranur SN College and Manjeri NSS College in association with TNIE.
