A group of 20 students from the Sinhgad Technical Education Society represented India at the recently concluded Formula Society of Automotive Engineers series in Japan (FSAE, Japan). STES Racing, consisted of undergraduate engineers from multiple streams who independently conceptualized, designed, manufactured and tested a racing car – SR17.
 
SR17 houses a KTM Duke 390cc engine which gives 43bhp and 35Nm torque, it boasts a custom made torsen differential with self-designed CF air intake. Hoosier wet type and Hoosier slick type tyres provide safety both during harsh and wet conditions. The car has a ground clearance of 50mm and is built for the race track. SR17’s safety is ensured by Bybre calipers and with Ohlins dampers which provide a smooth ride.
 
At FSAE Japan, SR17 cleared the technical scrutinizing in under an hour and further went for tilt test and egress.
 
Speaking on this achievement, Mr. Rohit Navale, Vice President – HR, Sinhgad Institutes said, “We are extremely proud of our STES Racing team, who have competed against 97 other international participants at the FSAE series. During the entire process of design, manufacturing and testing the team came across various real time challenges. All these challenges were solved by using the learnings and good engineering techniques the team developed. The SR17 was a huge success overall and we are sure STES Racing has a long way to go.
