Terming violence and lathi-charge on girls at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) a conspiracy against his government, chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday said that he had received intelligence input prior to the incident and had shared it with the varsity authorities who failed to show sensitivity in dealing with the crisis.

“It is clear that the row escalated due to communication gap between students and university authorities, following which some outsiders got the opportunity to create ruckus. All such outsiders have been identified through CCTV footages. They will be punished strictly,” said the CM, who is in Gorakhpur till Dussehra.

The CM said the report had been sent to the Centre.

He said the university administration had been directed to ensure that no student was harassed and the government would ensure that justice was meted out to the victims.

“To avoid such incidents in future, the state universities have been asked to work in coordination with the Centre,” he said, adding the BHU-like incidents were flared up to divert attention of people from development work of PM Modi and Shah.

Hitting out at Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi for visiting temples in poll-bound Gujarat, CM Yogi Adityanath said, “Congress won’t be able to win even a single seat there no matter how many temples he visits. His visit won’t bring any serious impact on Gujarat poll results.”

Yogi said Rahul had earlier visited Kashi Vishwanath temple and faced the ire of priests as he didn’t even know the proper way of sitting in a temple.
