Newton Box Office Collection Day 5: Rajkummar Rao's Earns Rs 9.55 Crore

New Delhi:  Rajkummar Rao's latest film Newton opened to positive reviews on September 22. The Amit V Masurkar-directed film has managed to collect Rs 9.55 crore at the box office so far, reported trade analyst Taran Adarsh. Newton's box collection for Tuesday was higher than that of Monday and its opening day figures, reported Mr Adarsh. "#Newton jumps again... Tue bigger than Mon... Fri 96 lakhs, Sat 2.52 cr, Sun 3.42 cr, Mon 1.31 cr, Tue 1.34 cr. Total: 9.55 cr. India biz," he tweeted. Newton also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil, Raghubir Yadav, Sanjay Mishra and Hardik Meriya in pivotal roles. The film narrates the story of a rookie government clerk, who is sent to a Naxal-controlled town in Chhattisgarh to conduct free and fair elections.

Newton has been selected as India's official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy Awards. In a recent interview with news agency PTI, Rajkummar Rao said that he hopes Newton brings him 'international recognition.'

"I think I am doing something different every time and I want to grow with every film. I hope with Newton, I get more international recognition. It is one of the most important films of my career. It was made with a lot of honesty," the 33-year-old actor told PTI.

In his review for NDTV, film critic Raja Sen wrote that Rajkummar Rao and Pankaj Tripathi provide 'terrific performances' in the film.

"Amit Masurkar's Newton is a dry and intriguing look at an India we don't usually see - and shows us how hard it is to take elections seriously," wrote Mr Sen.

Rajkummar Rao's Newton released in theatres along with Sanjay Dutt's Bhoomi and Sharddha Kapoor's Haseena Parkar.
