Missing Pennsburg doctor found dead off Perkiomen Trail

MARLBOROUGH >> A missing Pennsburg doctor being sought by police was found dead “in a wooded area just off the Perkiomen Trail Wednesday morning,” according to police.

Foul play is not suspected, according to a release from Marlborough Police Sgt. Ted Baird.

Dr. Peter Cianfrani, 70, of Green Lane, was reported missing on Tuesday, Sept. 26.

Later that night, his Honda CRV was found near the Crusher Road entrance to the trail in Perkiomenville.

A search began Wednesday morning and his body was found at 10:38 a.m., about a half-mile from the entrance to the trail, police said.

Cause and manner of death are pending an autopsy by the Montgomery County Coroners Office.

Assisting in the search were Green Lane, Red Hill, Lower Frederick, Upper Salford Fire Departments, Harleysville EMS, Lansdale VMSC K-9, Upper Perk, Lower Frederick Police, Pennsylvania State Police and Montgomery County Emergency Dispatch Services.

“The Marlborough Township Police Dept. would like to extend our most heart felt sympathies to the Cianfrani family,” read a post on the department’s Facebook page.

According to media reports, he currently worked with Pennsburg Family Practice on Geryville Pike and has been a doctor for 44 years.

After graduating from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia in 1974, Cianfrani practiced family medicine and was affiliated with Saint Luke’s Quakertown Hospital, Pottstown Memorial Medical Center and Grand View Hospital, according to an online biography.
