Avoiding lockers, accused stored jewellery in their houses

Nalluri Venkata Shivaprasad, an ITI qualified person working as Junior Technical Officer (JTO) in the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), has become the top most corrupt officer with the ACB unearthing ₹15.25 crore of registered value of his assets, the highest in 2017 so far.

The accused officer had 15 house sites, three multi-storied buildings, two apartments, a convention hall in 1.40 acres, a flat and had floated four companies in the name of his wife, Chintamaneni Gayatri, at different places in AP and Telangana. The ACB estimates the market value of the assets to be more than ₹200 crore.

Interestingly, Golla Venkata Raghu, Director of Town and Country Planning, and Shivaprasad, who were booked under the Disproportionate Assets (DA) cases on Monday, were not maintaining bank lockers and stored the gold, diamond and silver jewellery, worth crores of rupees, in their houses. Shivaprasad and Gayatri and one Subba Rao were benamis of Raghu, the ACB officials said.

Gayatri, who completed B. Tech, joined as junior assistant in the VMC on compassionate grounds in 1992.

“We are writing to the heads of all banks to submit the details of the bank accounts and lockers operated in the names of the accused and their benamis,” ACB Director General R.P. Thakur said.

Meanwhile, Shivaprasad and his wife Gayatri were produced in the Special Court for ACB here on Tuesday.
