According to a report by Nigerian Communications Week, Multichoice Nigeria, a Pay-TV service provider, came out on Monday 25 September 2017 to squash reports that they were looking to implement a Pay-Per-View model in the country.

Earlier this month, Vanguard reported that Multichoice was looking at implementing Pay-Per-View models for various high-profile sporting events. However, in a statement issued in Lagos, the company said that these reports are unfounded.

“Multichoice wishes to correct the news currently being circulated and states that at no time was it announced that a Pay-Per-View service was about to be launched,” said the statement.

According to a report by Telecompaper, the firm had told media that premium subscribers to its DStv platform would be able to watch the Floyd Mayweather versus Conor McGregor boxing match on 27 August as part of their package, but others would need to pay USD $99 extra on a pay-per-view basis to access the fight.

The company highlighted that if they decide to offer a new service in the future, the media and its subscribers will be directly informed.
