Calangute: The parish pastoral council of St Alex's Church, Calangute, along with panchayat members and locals residents organised a peaceful rally against the sale of drugs and rampant prostitution in the village on Wednesday, to mark International Tourism Day.
Calangute MLA and deputy speaker Michael Lobo was also in attendance.
"This is a movement where people have come together to oppose drugs, prostitution and other such activities that portray Calangute in bad light," Lobo said.
Addressing the gathering, senior journalist and Calangute resident Joaquim Fernandes said, "There are growing incidents of drugs being sold in the village as well as sex trade.
"We are not saying that we do not want tourism, but we want clean and sustainable tourism which benefits everybody, " Fernandes said.
