Among the indices, Nifty Realty settled as the biggest loser.
NEW DELHI: Wednesday's trading session was marked by a steep fall in equity benchmarks Sensex and Nifty. Sensex tanked nearly 500 points intraday whereas Nifty50 touched 9,735.

Nifty closed at 1.5-month low at 9,735.75, while Sensex ended near 3-month low at 31,159.81.

In the Nifty50 index, only 5 components--Bharti Infratel, Tata Consultancy Services, Tech Mahindra, Ambuja Cements and GAIL (India)-- settled in the positive zone.

Among the losers, Adani Ports led, with 5 per cent decline. It was followed by State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Sun Pharma, UltraTech Cement and Aurobindo Pharma.

Among the indices, Nifty Realty settled as the biggest loser. It settled 2.93 per cent down at 263.55, with shares of DLF, Delta Corp, Unitech, Godrej Properties and HDIL as top losers. However, Phoenix Mills gained 3 per cent.

Pharma stocks also crumbled today. Nifty Pharma index settled 2.81 per cent down at 9,036 with all components in the red.

Divi's Laboratories settled 10 per cent down at 860.60.

In total, 58 stocks hit fresh 52-week lows today. Adhunik Industries, Apollo Hospitals, Easun Reyrolle, Lasa Supergenerics, Religare Enterprises, TV Vision and Videocon were some of them.

On the other hand, Anik Industries, Bharat Forge, Deepak Nitrite, Premier Polyfilm and Rajesh Exports were among the 18 stocks that hit fresh 52-week highs on Wednesday.
