NAGPUR: The financial situation of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is very grim. Given this scenario, standing committee chairman Sandip Jadhav plans to review the revenue collections by tax, market, and town planning departments in its meeting on September 28.
Recently, TOI had reported that in the first five months the civic body has so far met a mere 28.21% of its revenue target (Rs 641 crore out of Rs 2271.97 crore). Through property tax — one of its main sources of income to run the city — NMC has earned only Rs55 crore against a target of Rs 392.19 crore. Even the revenue collection by market department was not satisfactory. Against a target of Rs 30.50 crore, the department has so far collected a paltry Rs 2.10 crore.
Similarly, the town planning department has recovered only Rs 26 crore against the target of Rs 101.25 crore.
Sources said the civic administration has already issued a notification declaring 4% dearness allowance (DA) to civic employees. The increased DA will be effective from October salary to be paid in November. The move will create an additional burden of Rs 1.50 crore to Rs 1.75 crore on NMC.
The standing panel meeting will also consider NMC public works department's budget proposal for Lakadganj zone worth Rs 7.92 crore. Sources said already five months have passed and the delay in clearing this proposal will affect civic works in the zone.
