ONGOLE: Three youth were arrested on Tuesday for attempting to rape a girl and posting the video on WhatsApp. The incident that happened last month in Prakasam district came to light after the girl’s father lodged a complaint with the Kangiri Police on Tuesday on learning that the accused had posted the clip on the mobile application two days ago. Acting immediately, police arrested the trio — V Sai and B Pavan of Kanigiri town and K Karthik of Agraharam in Kanigiri mandal — and registered cases against them. One of them is studying engineering while other two are degree students.

According to Kanigiri sub inspector K Srinivas Rao, the trio befriended the victim and invited her and another girl to a temple on the outskirts of the town last month. At an isolated place near the temple, one of the three tried to molest the victim, while the other two captured it on their mobile phones. The other girl managed to escape.

Two days ago, the clip was posted on WhatsApp. Meanwhile, AP State Women’s Commission chairperson Nannapaneni Rajakumari demanded stern action against the culprits and cautioned women against wayward men.
