Teacher in Dadri school accused of showing students obscene videos

Students of a junior government school in a Dadri village have alleged that they were “shown video clips of a blue film”, “made to wash utensils”, verbally abused and beaten up by a teacher. While the allegations were confirmed by the principal, district officials maintained that the matter is under investigation. Located in Gautam Buddh Nagar district’s Rajpur Khandera village, the school, which caters to children from neighbouring villages and has a student strength of 35 with two teachers, has been witnessing unrest, with locals and students demanding that the teacher be suspended.

“She beats us and uses bad words to address us. She showed us blue film clips and threatened to make videos of us and upload them on the internet. When we objected, she said I will break your leg,” claimed a student.

According to school officials, the matter has been brought to notice of district officials. “Once, I saw a group of students gathered around her on campus. She was sitting on a chair. When I went to check what was happening, I saw her playing a video clip on her mobile phone. I reprimanded her for doing this, but she said she was watching the video and had not forced students to watch it,” alleged Kusum Kumari, principal of the school.

The teacher could not be reached for a comment.

The principal alleged that she had seen students being made to wash utensils on school premises. “When I objected, she started abusing me. She verbally abuses students and parents, too. She has been at this school for about a year and we have received several complaints. Authorities have been informed and we are waiting for them to take action,” Kumari said.

Similar grievances were voiced by Ravinder, head of Rajpur Khandera village, who said students have stopped going to school owing to the teacher’s conduct. “She was at this school a few years ago and was transferred to another government school because of her behaviour. She returned a while ago. Children have been complaining against her but no action has been taken. Today, some police personnel reached the school because of this hue and cry,” he alleged.

Maintaining that no police case has been registered so far, Superintendent of Police R A Suniti said, “The matter is being investigated by the district’s child welfare committee. Till now, no police case has been registered.”

Bal Mukund Prasad, Bal Shiksha Adhikari of the district, said, “We are probing all angles and are in the process of collecting evidence. Based on the outcome, proper action will be taken.”
