According to a report by the CNBC, vice president of global marketing solutions at Facebook, Carolyn Everson in an Advertising Week in New York announced the news. Meanwhile, it has 500 million daily active users, as of now.

Other announcements by Facebook included time spent on Instagram which jumped up by 80 percent year over year. Moreover, the number of videos produced daily on Instagram had increased almost four times. Thanks to these numbers, Instagram's advertiser base has grown to 2 million.

In December 2016, the company had over 300 million monthly active users. Compared to December last year, there has been an increase in the number of users by a whopping 500 million users.

Meanwhile, in a new update, Instagram is giving its users the choice to control who would comment on their posts.

Snap Inc's Snapchat, whose features Instagram has been ripping off is still struggling at 173 million daily active users as compared to 500 million daily active users of Instagram.

Currently there are four categories to it. These are ‘Everyone’, “People you follow and your followers”, “people you follow” and ‘your followers’. Users also have the option to block comments from specific accounts. This is in addition to an automatic filter, as well as a custom keyword-based filter.

According to a recent report, Instagram Stories, the feature which it ripped off from rival Snapchat, seems to be doing better than the original after a year since its launch. In terms of average time spent on Instagram, it is 32 minutes per day for users below the age of 25. And for those over 25 years, the duration is 24 minutes per day. According to the Instagram blog, half the business accounts have posted an Instagram story in the last month. And one in every five business stories posted gets a Direct Message.
