Ikea's new app lets you try new furniture in your home through augmented reality

Apple along with the launch of the new iPhones also dropped its much-awaited ARKit tech, and the global furniture giant is making good use of it

Ikea's new app lets you try new furniture in your home through augmented reality

Furniture giant Ikea just introduced “Ikea Place”, an augmented reality app that helps make Ikea shopping a little less painful.

The app uses the customer’s camera to quickly scan a room and then place an Ikea furniture around to see how it looks.

The Ikea Place app automatically scales products, based on room dimensions, with 98 percent accuracy.

Through the app, you can see the texture of the fabric as well as how light and shadows are rendered on the furnishings.

Once you have everything in its place you can capture the room setting and share it as an image or video with friends for a second opinion.

For availing the feature, one needs to have iOS 11 or higher on their system, which means at least an iPhone 6s.

Apart from placing furniture, the app also has additional options of repositioning and moving it closer and further away to view it from different angles.

Not only the AR representations done by Ikea are pretty much “in-depth”- they even include the option of going beneath furniture to get a 360-degree view.

While the entire product catalogue from Ikea is yet to be transferred to the app the feature makes the tough job of visualizing furniture in your home surroundings easier by a great deal and saves you a trip to the store.

The furniture giant has recently got approval for its Navi Mumbai store last month.
