Abdullah Abdullah, Chief Executive Of Afghanistan To Inaugurate Trade Investment Show In New Delhi Today

The Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, H.E. Dr Abdullah Abdullah is on a three-day visit to India from today till 29th of September. Dr Abdullah who was set to arrive at 4:30 PM IST, is running with a delay. He is in the country to inaugurate India-Afghanistan Trade and Investment Show along with the Finance Minister and the Minister of Civil Aviation of India on September 27, 2017.
Abdullah is set to meet EAM Sushma Swaraj tomorrow at 12:30 PM IST at Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan. It will be followed by a meeting with PM Modi at 4:30 PM IST and a meeting with President Ram Nath Kovind at 6:30 PM IST at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
He will deliver a speech at the Indian Council for World Affairs on 29th Of September.
India and Afghanistan enjoy deep-rooted civilizational links. India has been partnering with the Government and the people of Afghanistan in their efforts to building a stable, peaceful, prosperous, united and pluralistic country.
The visit follows the recently concluded second meeting of the Strategic Partnership Council which was co-chaired by the External Affairs Minister of India and the Foreign Minister of Afghanistan where both sides ushered in the next generation New Development Partnership.
India-Afghanistan Trade and Investment Show will feature Afghan entities from economy, agriculture, health, education, gender and energy sectors seeking trade and investment opportunities with India, along with the CEOs of major Indian and US companies.
Popular consumer goods from Afghanistan like carpets, gemstones, marble, saffron, dried fruits and nuts will also be on display.
The bilateral trade at 683.02 million US$ for 2013-14 ($ 474.25 million export and $ 208.77 million import by India) is at a modest level given the vast potential between two countries.
India, under small development projects (SDPs) Phase I& II (US$ 20 million) and Phase III (US$ 100 million) along with Ministry of Economy of Afghanistan has undertaken/committed more than 200 projects of small projects with less gestation period covering Public Health, Education, and community infrastructure in various provinces of Afghanistan.
During Dr Abdullah’s last visit to India in 2016, the Government of India conveyed the approval of the 3rd phase of Small Development Projects comprising of 92 projects in Afghanistan.
