CHENNAI: India's Dipika Pallikal Karthik upset fourth-seeded Emily Whitlock 11-9, 11-8, 7-11, 11-8 to advance to the last eight of USD 50,000 San Francisco Open squash tournament, a PSA World Tour event in San Francisco.

The Chennai-based Pallikal Karthik maintained her winning run against Whitlock of England, beating her for the fourth time, late yesterday. Pallikal Karthik looked to be cruising to victory before the 13th-ranked Englishwoman bounced back to take the third game.

The Indian won the fourth 11-8 to move into the quarters, said a SRFI press note here. The lone Indian in the tournament, ranked 21 in the world, faces Olivia Blatchford of USA in the last eight.
