At a time where comfort food is gaining prominence across all age groups, charting out a healthy menu has become a difficult task for many.
Paryavarana Margadarsi Vaisakhi (PMV) in association with Bapuji Rural Enlightenment and Development Society and Green Soldiers hosted a millet food festival on Tuesday. The festival, organised on World Environmental Health Day, aimed at bringing out simple traditional recipes and motivating the younger generation to consider nutrient-packed millets as their staple diet.
The platform opened an avenue for the health-conscious lot to rediscover the tiny grains and toss up a range of dishes incorporating them in a variety of formats. With an objective to encourage children to replace calorie-loaded junk food by sumptuous meals made of wholesome millets, the festival drew some good number of parents and children.
Volunteers of PMV and other participants dished out millet-based stuff and packed it neatly in lunch boxes to display at the venue. Along with a selection of snacks and sweets, some also prepared ragi-dosa topped with drumstick leaves, millet pulihora, cookies, fritters, and many more.
Founder-president of PMV S. Vijay Kumar, secretary of the Visakhapatnam Public Library Society D.S. Varma, environment activist Rani Sarma attended as special guests and urged the need to include millet-based menus at home. Secretary of PMV J. Rajeswari, president of GESS P.V. Sirisha along with a host of volunteers took part in the festival.
