Indore: A sandalwood tree was illegally cut and smuggled out of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) campus in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. The incident came to light on Monday morning, when an employee of the university, Kailash found a 20-year-old precious sandalwood tree missing from its place on the RNT Marg campus. He immediately informed campus in charge and deputy registrar Prajwal Khare about the incident, following which Khare reached the site to discover the theft.
The deputy registrar enquired the security guards but found them completely unaware of the incident. He immediately tipped off the vice chancellor, who rushed to the RNT Marg campus, and pulled up security agency field officer Deepchand Jaiswal, stating that his Krishna Security Agency has failed to deliver its duty properly.
“A tree goes missing from the campus and security agency guards did not even get an air of the theft. This is nothing but blatant negligence in duty,” the VC told Jaiswal. He also flayed the security official for finding no guards present at the entrance during his visit to the campus on Sunday evening and clarified that “The university is not happy with the work of the agency and may scrap its contract if such lapses continue.”
Notably, the VC has been reportedly unhappy with the security agency for quite some time, especially after a security guard had stolen mobile phone of a girl student of International Institute of Professional Studies on Monday, which was confirmed by the CCTV footage.
A tree goes missing from campus and security guards do not even get an air of the theft. This is nothing but blatant negligence in duty. We will lodge a complaint with police and also, start numbering the trees on our campuses to prevent such incidents in future
