Wall collapse damages vehicles in Attiguppe

The compound of the Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (IHMCT) in Maruthi Layout near Attiguppe collapsed leading to the damage caused to 5 cars, 2 autorickshaws, 1 van and 1 two- wheeler on Wednesday morning.

Nearby residents had parked their vehicles close to the compound as usual and the heavy rains that lashed on the city on Tuesday night caused this incident at about 12.15 pm. The wall which is about 100 feet long and 15 feet high collapsed. About six trees have been uprooted in this place.

Hearing the sound of the collapse, the residents came out of their houses only to see their vehicles damaged in the disaster.

“The compound wall had cracked and the water was leaking from the wall. We had brought the issue to the notice of the hostel workers. They said that they will inform higher officials. We had also informed BBMP officials. They did not seem to care about the matter. This disaster has happened due to the negligence of the authorities of the institution and BBMP itself,” said Gowdaiah, a nearby resident.

The owners of the vehicle have lodged a negligence complaint against the hostel authorities at Chandra Layout police station. Housing Minister M Krishnappa and Mayor G Padmavathi inspected the place on Wednesday morning. The owners urged the Mayor to provide compensation.

Similarly, in Ranka Nest Apartment of Okalipuram, a compound collapsed but no casualties were reported. Two compounds have been collapsed and the rajakaluve (drain) is overflowing with sewage water The desilting is underway.

Some snakes reportedly came to the roads. About five snakes were caught by BBMP workers on Wednesday.
