Microsoft co-founder Bill gates has ditched his Windows phone for an Android smartphone. This comes on the back of Windows phone’s market share plunging to 0.3 percent.

In a recent interview with Fox News, Bill Gates revealed that he has cast his Windows Phone aside for an Android powered smartphone running “a lot of Microsoft software”. Sadly, he never specified which Android phone took his fancy out of the thousands circulating in the market. Reports however claim that he might be using a Microsoft Edition Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone, reported India Today.

This decision of Bill Gates marks the final blow for what was once a very promising operating system. In its hey days, Windows Phone was on track to become a serious competitor to Android and iOS. However, lack of developer support and a very weak app system and hardware deficiencies proved to be troublesome for the Windows phone.

Microsoft’s decision to constantly reboot and modify Windows Phone with Windows Phone 8 and then Windows 10 Mobile did not help matters in the slightest. Microsoft stopped supporting the Windows Phone line-up in July.

When asked if he would ever consider using an iPhone sometime in the future, Bill Gates simply replied – “Nope, no iPhone.”. A report from The Verge actually mentions that Gates had previously banned iPhones and iPods from his home which is not very surprising considering his contentious and testy relationship with Steve Jobs and Apple in the past.

Bill Gates choosing Android over iPhone can also be the level of flexibility and customisation the former offers. iOS is very restricted and is a walled garden in many ways. When asked about his relationship with Steve Jobs, Gates told Fox News that he was a genius. He further said that him and Jobs has extremely disparaging strategies for their companies. “But the competition in the software and IT space that Steve helped foster, it’s phenomenal. And Microsoft’s a big part of that,” he added.
