Mumbai: IMD forecasts heavy thunder showers and rains this week

Mumbai: As the monsoon is entering its last phase, there are still chances of heavy rainfall and thunder showers continuing this week. The city in the past week hasn’t received much rainfall and has seen temperature soaring with fluctuating weather conditions. The heavy downpour of September 19 saw the city receive 304 mm rainfall in 24 hours.

Meanwhile, it seemed like the October heat is already here with the temperature rising to 31 degrees and humidity at 84 per cent. For coastal regions like Mumbai, 80-84 per cent humidity is considered normal. Temperatures have risen slightly, which along with the humidity, has caused the discomfort index to rise too,” said a senior IMD official, reported The Indian Express.

This monsoon has also followed the same old pattern of past monsoons, with apathy in rain drainage, water logging, indifferent attitude of BMC, traffic snarls and the chaos of August 29 are still fresh in people’s mind. Mumbai despite being the financial capital of India every year faces the same problem again and again and that no one is accountable for the misgovernance and the civic body passes the buck. The good thing this monsoon has done is that there will be very remote chance of drought and agriculture sector can also breath a sigh of relief.

While the monsoon is on the retreat, Mumbai is expected to receive rainfall for a while longer. According to the weather department, thunderstorms are expected over the next few days to cool down the temperature.
