The caretaker of Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa college was arrested after he was found to be involved with a group of people who were trying to barge inside the college late Wednesday night, police said. Three others, reportedly students of various North Campus colleges, have also been identified as part of the group, police added.

Police said the principal of the college reported the incident to them. In his complaint, the principal said that a contractual staff informed the college authorities that on the intervening night of September 19 and September 20, when he was on night duty near the residential complex of the college, a group of men tried to enter the college and created ruckus outside Gate Number 4.

“The complainant has told us that the group was under the influence of alcohol. They created ruckus for 15-20 minutes, following which some other members of the college staff also gathered at the spot. They left after a heated argument with the college staff, who were outside the college. A complaint in the case was registered at Maurice Nagar police station,” said a senior police officer.

On the basis of the contractual staff’s statement, police claimed that the group was trying to enter the girl’s hostel.

Police also said that the college has handed over CCTV footage to them. “We have arrested Rakesh Dhall, the caretaker of the college canteen. The students who were with him have also been identified. We will take action against them,” the officer added.
