Jurgen Klopp is known for being direct with the media and has given quite a few memorable moments ever since he has taken over as Liverpool manager. One such instance was last season when he hit back at Gary and Phil Neville for their criticism of Liverpool goalkeeper Laurius Karius. He then seemed to realise what he had done and said, “Aaah, now you have your headline!”

Klopp once again gave a glimpse of this part of his character in the pre-match press conference for Liverpool’s Champions League match against Spartak Moscow in Russia. Klopp was asked whether he “loved” any of his players the way Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino said he loved Harry Kane. While laughter could be heard from around the room after the reported completed his question, Klopp gave a stone-faced nod of the head before saying that he was surprised that such questions were being asked in a Champions League press conference. He then went on to state that when he said he loves Liverpool, it also extends to the players. He then smiled and said, “Actually I love Harry (Kane) too.”

As his answer was being translated into Russian, he paused the translator and said, ” Actually it is not important. The question or my answer its not important for Russia it’s just an English thing. Pochettino loves Kane and who do I love that was the question. That’s a waste of time.” The entire press conference itself took a longer time than usual chiefly due to the translations that had to be done after each answer and each Russian question. Klopp’s frustration was not helped by the fact that Liverpool went on to play an exasperating 1-1 draw against Spartak Moscow.
