CHENNAI: In yet another incident of child lifting, a two-and-a half-year-old boy was allegedly stolen from a spot in front of his house in RK Nagar on Monday afternoon.
Mohammed Sathu was playing outside his house in Nethaji Nagar Second Street in RK Nagar when the incident occurred. “Around 12.30 pm, a man clad in a light coloured shirt and a lungi allegedly plucked out the boy and rode away through the same street. A few minutes later, as the mother Barkath Nisha did not hear any sound from the child, she searched for him in the nearby houses, but could not find him,” said a police personnel.

She immediately alerted the neighbours, who searched the locality. While scanning CCTV footage in the locality, they found a man riding his cycle, with the boy sitting in front and passing the stretch.
The parents - Illyas and Barkath - lodged a complaint with the RK Nagar police. A special team has been formed and the police are looking at more CCTV footage from the locality to trace the suspect.
Speaking to the reporters, the mother said she had not seen the man before and could not identify him. “My son was playing in front of the house, when the man stole him,” she said. Whether the boy was kidnapped was not clear as there was no ransom call at the time of going to press.

Illyas runs a textile shop in Royapuram.Hardly a week ago, a 15-day-old baby was stolen from the Government General Hospital. However, the police traced the baby in Salem the next day and found that the accused was a repeat offender as she had stolen a one-and-a-half-year old baby from a train near Tirupur last year. Police are trying to trace the parents of that infant.

On February 29, 2016 a nine-month-old female baby identified as Sharanya, daughter of daily labourer Perumal and Lakshmi, was sleeping in between her parents, when she was stolen.
Twenty-one days after the incident was reported at Walltax Road, an eight-month-old male baby allegedly went missing from the platform of Harbour MLA office, North Fort Road.Police are yet to trace both the children.
