Apple has ditched Bing for Google as a default search engine choice for Siri on iOS or Spotlight on MacOS.
Basically, now when you do a web search using Siri, you will now get Google results instead of results from Bing.
As per TechCrunch, the takeover was likely timed in line with the release of MacOS High Sierra.
Bing, however, has been retained only to give image search results till now, whereas Google will be providing general Internet links and videos.
Google has reportedly paid Apple billions of dollars to remain the default search engine on its devices. Safari on Mac and iOS is already using Google search owing to this deal.
Apple, however, is only interested in maintaining the consistency and quality of their searches.
“Switching to Google as the web search provider for Siri, Search within iOS and Spotlight on Mac will allow these services to have a consistent web search experience with the default in Safari,” reads an Apple statement, as per a TechCrunch report.
“We have strong relationships with Google and Microsoft and remain committed to delivering the best user experience possible,” Apple added.
Web image results will still keep pouring in from Bing. Video results will be coming from YouTube.
