Mumbai: Furious over the comments that his friend was consistently making about his wife, a 35-year-old Malwani resident got him drunk and then stabbed him to death on Saturday night.
Residents of Dharavli village informed the police control room on Sunday morning about a body being found in a creek. The body was sent to Bhagwati Hospital for post-mortem.
The police said the body had multiple stab wounds and a dagger was found near the creek. A case of murder and an attempt to destruct evidence was registered against unknown persons under the Indian Penal Code.
“We found that a missing persons complaint had been registered in the name of a man corresponding to the description of the deceased at Kandivali police station on Sunday. We called the wife of the missing person and she identified the body as that of her husband Raees Ansari’s (38),” said an officer with the Malwani police.
Locals told the police that he was frequently seen in the company of Shahrukh Ansari (35). The police obtained cellular location details of Shahrukh’s phone, and found that he was in the range of the same cellular tower as of Raees on Saturday night.
“We picked up Shahrukh and after questioning, he confessed to have murdered Raees,” the officer said.
Senior police inspector Deepak Phatangre, Malwani police station, said, “Raees used to make comments about Shahrukh’s wife in his presence, and would say things like she is very attractive and that he wished he could have married her. Shahrukh had repeatedly told Raees to stop doing this, but Raees did not listen to him.”
Shahrukh told the police that on Saturday night, he invited Raees for a drink and took him to Aqsa beach, where they both drank liquor. After Raees was drunk, Shahrukh, who had brought a dagger, allegedly took him to Dharavli village and stabbed him to death. He then dumped the body in the creek.
Shahrukh was arrested, and the police will be producing him in court on Tuesday.
