Thane: Shiv Sena leaders and workers took to the streets in Thane shouting slogans against rising inflation and rising prices of essential goods and fuel on Monday. The protest against the inflation started from the central office of Shivsena at Thane’s Talaopali and reached the Collector’s office and a letter of demands was given to Deputy Collector Vandana Suryvanshi.
The protest saw the participation of Sena MPs, MLAS, corporators and workers. “Though Shiv Sena is a member of the ruling party, our party always is and was with the people. Today people are suffering because of the rising inflation and many wrong decisions of the government and therefore, to let the government understand what it has laid. We will also be arguing this issues in the respective houses,” said PWD minister Eknath Shinde.
The party borrowed a huge replica of a bullock cart from N.D Studio and a big trolley was attached behind it to highlight the issue. But interestingly, the cart, which was the main attraction of the protest, was running on the diesel. The women’s wing also participated in the protest and were wearing garlands of vegetables around their necks. The women were seen cooking on ‘chulhas’ as they prepared ‘bhakari’.

“The prices of all essential goods and cylinders are rising fast. The people can’t afford these expensive essential goods. The rising prices of cylinder have made it difficult to buy a cylinder and hence, they have no option, but to cook on the age-old ‘chulhas’. So we are protesting here against these rising prices by demonstrating the cooking process,” said a protester.
The protesters shouted slogans against the government policies like GST and demonetisation. The party claimed their fight was not against a person but the policies which were hurting the common man. The Sena may be a part of the government, but with the BJP being the dominant partner, the former does not have much say in state policies.
“The opposition parties are not bothered or concerned about common people and therefore, they do not argue also against the government’s wrong policies. Whereas Shiv Sena is a party who always stands with the people. Therefore, we have to play the role of opposition as well to keep a vigil on the wrong policies that affects people,” claimed Shinde.
