Sen. Toomey stands Pat on GOP health care plan
U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., came to talk Delaware County yesterday to take part in a roundtable discussion regarding tax reform with the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce. But he also had the fierce health care debate raging in the Senate on his mind. Flanked by Chamber President Trish McFarland to his left, and to his right, Jeannie Liggett, Regional Government-Affairs Manager of Exelon Generation, Toomey was pitched questions and suggestions from business owners and regional managers from the assistant vice president of External Affairs at AT&T to bankers to real estate gurus.
Gregory Feldman. accused of shooting ex-girlfriend’s mom in Limerick, found dead in Schuylkill Township
A Lower Salford man wanted in connection with the Sept. 22 shooting of a Limerick woman was found dead in Schuylkill Township Monday night. Gregory Fedlman died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan. Feldman had allegedly told his ex-girlfriend, “I wanted you to feel my pain,” after he shot and wounded her mother at their Limerick home
Baker pleads guilty to throwing ‘sucker punch’
Barry Robert Baker Jr., the former East Fallowfield man who threw a “sucker punch” at a disabled man and became infamous on social media for doing so as a surveillance video of the incident began circulating on the internet, pleaded guilty Monday to misdemeanor charges in his case. The pleas before Common Pleas Judge William P. Mahon came hours before a jury was to have been chosen for trial on the assault charge. They had stalled last week when Baker, a self-employed tree service owner with a string of petty criminal cases on his past, balked at agreeing with the prosecution as to the specifics of what had happened the night of the assault.
Man charged with first-degree murder in Norristown killing
A Norristown man is behind bars, charged with first-degree murder in the brutal slaying of another man he allegedly killed with a hammer following an argument. Michael Bell, 34, of the 100 block of Schuylkill Avenue, reportedly admitted to striking 42-year-old Leroy McCray repeatedly with a hammer during an altercation in Bell’s apartment Saturday night. According to arresting documents, police responded to the scene at 8:13 p.m. for a report of a dead body on the premises.
Retiring Montgomery Township Police Officer Matlack honored for 30-year career
One of Montgomery Township’s most visible police officers has called it a career. Officer James Matlack was recognized Monday night at the end of a three-decade career in uniform. “Montgomery Township, and the citizens of Montgomery County, truly benefited from your outstanding work. Your commitment to protect others, in your many years as a community policing officer and a DARE officer, has helped make our county a much safer place to live and work,” said Samuel Gallen, Montgomery County’s chief county detective.
