In an upsetting announcement for Kamal Haasan fans, the Ulaganayagan has said that he will stop acting once he takes a political position officially. The veteran actor has been under the spotlight of national media post his decision to enter politics. According to media reports, the 62-year-old actor will hang up his boots, ending an illustrious film career spanning more than 50 years once he assumes an official political position. While the actor has said that he would continue to be associated with cinema, the engagement would not be active.

The actor is known for his cinematic brilliance and versatility. Apart from acting, he has donned multiple hats behind the screen as well as a writer, director, producer, singer amid others. It is noteworthy that he is also working on two films currently, Vishwaroopam 2 and Sabash Naidu. One of the finest actors in the country, Kamal is the recipient of several awards including the Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri, several national, state and filmfare awards. He also made his debut on the small screen with the popular reality show ‘Bigg Boss’.

Calling himself an opportunist, Kamal Haasan has said that his political plunge stemmed from the state of politics today. Lashing out against the current political parties, he has said that he would adopt an ideology that is ‘politically centre’. An active critic of the Tamil Nadu government on Twitter, Kamal received heavy criticism from politicos for using Twitter as a medium to engage the masses. As an apt response, the actor met with several politicians such as Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal and Kerala Chief minister Pinnari Vijayan, meetings he termed educational. The actor has also announced that he will float his own party that will fight against corruption. Kamal Haasan has also not ruled out an alliance with Superstar Rajinikanth, another star who has made headlines recently about his political foray. Admitting a difference in ideologies, the actor has said that he would be open to working with him on issues.
